Despite the typical-for-this-franchise crazy semi-nonsensical plot the movie was fun. And highly entertaining. Also, the guy directly behind me scream-laughing into my ear approximately every 72 seconds, on average, was pretty awesome too!.
Update: Salon has a fairly negative review posted. I like this bit:
Director Gore Verbinksi and writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio have shoehorned so much action, movement and manufactured dazzle into the picture — all cued by Hans Zimmer’s hyperventilating music — that the thing never simply breathes. This is a glazed, inhuman, cluttered piece of work, a storytelling mishmash that buries the considerable charms of its actors under heavy drifts of silt.
I can see what the author is saying, but don’t agree with her final conclusion of “basically worthless.” I do recommend being prepared for ridiculousness and over-the-top chaos, though.

then you need to listen to this, because it’s great:

Slim Thug, T.I. & Bun-B – Three Kings (Ratatat Remix)
I don’t mean to harp on Ratatat too much, but they are really good. I have been listening to other things recently (like the South African group Freshlyground) but I keep coming back to Ratatat’s albums.

I’m going to see Ratatat at the 9:30 Club tonight. Their album Classics is great, and so is their most recent, Remixes II.

It’s a late show. Should be good. I hope I can get home somehow without taking a cab. Good luck to me!
Update: It was GREAT, and Stuart drove me home.

From The Hold Steady‘s web page about their new album, Boys and Girls in America:
No. I moved to New York when I was 29 years old, so maybe you’re hanging out with a better quality of person. When you’re 18, there’s some idiots who are like, “We’re gonna go drink this under a bridge, you wanna come?” And you’re like, “Yeah. Absolutely. How would we not want to drink under a bridge?” I think Minneapolis is pretty unique. The delinquents out there are pretty delinquent. And everyone’s got a car, so there’s like, a lot of mobility. A lot of bad ideas can be put into action quickly. ‘Cause you can like, haul stuff.
That’s priceless, and so true about much of America.
Oh, and it’s a great album. Check it out! I think I’m going to go see them when they are in D.C. in November.
